Hype... it's everywhere, but at the same time, nowhere. It's consider a catalyst for many a movement, and also the downfall of more than a few bad ideas and trends (Can anyone say Furby?). This piece is interesting because it actually started as a sticker ... if you can't tell by now, a large portion, or should I say "ALL" of the last few HH releases were based around resentment and depression, largely spawned from just dealing with some less than savory people and not exercising my better judgement. This sticker was going to be a tie-in to that feeling, but it ended up looking so good on a tee that it ousted another piece from it's throne and became it's own thing.
The base of the tee has two elements intertwined to make a striking image. The funny thing however, it's not that at all. There is always a line one draws when using certain references and with HH being at it's core, a brand spawned from hunger and persistence, the element of the obscure or hard to comprehend is fun to play with....in other words, we do goofy confusing stuff sometimes!
When someone wastes your time or just does something that makes no sense at all.You question it.WHY DID THEY DO THAT??? A lot of the time, people don't know why they do things, they just want to be a part of something.I feel HH is a very special something that people latch onto. The energy you as the fans give to it, the heart,...people see it ,and it's hard to ignore...even crazy big wigs and corporations have little people running them that want to be a part of something.Hype is what makes people do all sorts of crazy stuff and to us,it's the most powerful potent thing on the planet.
If you add money to the equation, hype gets even more intoxicating. The dollar bill is a little nod to most people's motives at the end of the day :hype and money.Humans are pretty simple sometimes. If you examine the bill a bit closer, there's a little nod to Self Sponsored shirt with the face logo, that's just a fun jab to how people at HH are compared to the general populaton...they're not really about hype or money, just real hunger and struggling to get where we need to be: without those outside influences.
I could ramble on about this part forever, but that's no fun.The shirt on the surface is a bit of an awkward homage to crazy people doing wild stuff that doesn't make sense. Whether it's sidebets at tournaments, wasting a bunch of someone's darn time (*cough*),or just making a wild shirt to see what someone's reaction is (*double cough*)...that's what this shirt is about for me.But at the end of day, it's whatever you want it to be.
SIDENOTE: It was super fun to see all sorts of people buy the shirt for different reasons and say to oneself "why did they buy that???"... because the shirt itself is one weird long troll question on a way...WHY? I guess I just wanted to be a part of the hype.
