Around this time a year prior, I took on the task of learning ironwork working from my cousins in the Bay Area.(separate blog post).
Manual labor was difficult, but also rewarding....AND I LEARNED HOW TO USE A NAIL GUN! (also separate blog post WITH PICTURES!!)
During this stint, I ran into Kenny Wilson.
Kenny used to run me up and down each and every work project.I always got paired with him, so I just had to get used to it and learn to 'catch up' as he used to say.
He was tough as nails and would tell me the power of a good work ethic and 'hustling' : to keep on pushing through every project with resilience and ignore lames and adversity because it'd just "slow you down" and ultimately make you miss your mark.
The only time I ever saw Kenny let down his guard and soften up during my whole stay was when he would speak of his daughter, Gabi Wilson.
He and Gabi have been playing together for years and she is on her way to becoming a phenomenal young talent. I heard some of her work early last year and will tell you guys this is just the beginning of what she's about to do for not only music, but the world.
Kenny and I don't talk often since my departure, but when I heard this piece on the radio the other day, I instantly recognized the voice and just was overwhelmed knowing that the hardwork put in is paying off, GABI HAS HER FIRST SINGLE!!! YAYYYYYY!!!
The single is appropriately named 'Something to Prove' and evokes the bass heavy melodies of the early 90's with the R n B soul of previous acts such as The Isley Brothers and even dare I say it, Aaliyah.
Gabi writes her own songs, acts, plays her own instruments and has been working hard since childhood to make this happen... so we are 100% supportive and want to help out.
There's a ton of other stuff I'm probably missing, but you guys can piece it together via articles such as this and following Gabi on her Instagram of @GabiWilsonOfficial for updates on what else is going on in her already large stratosphere.
So, listen to this all the time, call it in on the radio, tell everyone you know about Gabi Wilson. She's ready to do work and we look forward to what the future holds for her.
Good luck.
